3 Reasons Why You Should Comment On Blogs

I am a big believer in the notion of "you get what you give".  If you give money, eventually you will receive money.  If you give referrals, you will receive referrals.  Always.  If we give first, it will come back to us.  The same goes for people interacting with us online.  If we want people to comment on our blogs, we must be willing to comment on theirs.  After all, when you give, you receive.  Here are 3 reasons why we should comment on a blog in our niche at least once a day.

1. More Exposure:  When you leave a comment with value, (something thought out that lets the author know that you actually read the article and not just, "great post") your name and profile will be exposed  to everyone that comes across that blog post.  If people find your comment interesting, they will be inclined to find out more about you and what you do.

2. More Comments on Your Blog:  It's only natural (and I am not trying to beat a dead horse) that when someone does something for us that we really appreciate, we want to return the favor.  When we leave a comment that uplifts someone's blog post, it makes that author feel great (just like when someone comments on our articles).  Once that author sees your comment, more than likely, they will want to check you out.  If you have a blog site as well, they will want to read and comment on your posts.  Think of it as networking online.

3. Creates a link back to your site and profile:   Let me start by saying this:  If our only intent is to comment just to get a link back to our site, it will be short lived and we won't create an online network of value.  People can smell selfish tactics from a mile away.  A link back to your website or profile just happens to be a great benefit, especially from a search engine optimization perspective.  Just remember, our comment has to be approved by the author (most of the time) first before we even get the link.  If the comment is "spammy" or "salesy" it will probably be denied.  The cool thing is, once approved, someone can click on your name above your comment and it will take them directly to your website or social media profile (depending on the blog).  Either way,  this is a great way to give back to others, but also have them to see your content.

Please feel free to leave a comment on this blog post and i'll be sure to return the favor ;)

I made a quick video to show you how to effectively comment on a blog and show which ones are best to leave a comment:

Ya got me on this one! While I do comment on other people’s blog’s, I don’t do it nearly as much as I should! Thanks for the reminder! I also think it’s important to leave good quality comments. Not just posting things like “Oh that’s great!” or “Good job!” but something meaningful, or rely something learned, or a tip we found helpful from the person’s blog. I think appreciation, and letting the author know why the post impacted you in a certain way helps them create other content in a similar way, and helps them know that their work was really read and appreciated since they took the time ti write it.

All that being said... great post, and it was a good reminder for me to start doing this again. I started commenting on a lot of people’s blogs, then just stopped with the “I’m too busy to read this and comment!” excuse. So thanks!

Hey thanks Devani! I appreciate the comment. I used to try to comment on several and then fall off! Now I just commit to one per day. Like an apple lol!

I like the idea of one per day best. It would be a good commitment. Committing to several a day tends to be too much when I am busy.
